Barkley Haggen Community Food Drive Ends

The 17th-annual Community Food Drive at Barkley Haggen ended Friday. The effort, sponsored by Industrial Credit Unions and hosted at Haggen stores throughout Whatcom County, lasted from Oct. 15-19. Thanks to the donations, the Bellingham Food Bank reached their goal of 300,000 pounds of food.
To jump-start the event, Nature's Path Organics served breakfast to anyone who donated before 11 am on Monday.
Although Haggen is no longer hosting the food drive, anyone who wants to donate after Friday can make food or monetary contributions to the Bellingham Food Bank on 1824 Ellis St. The Food Bank is open from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday. To make a monetary donation, visit the administration office in the same building from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
According to the Feed the Need website, food banks provided 6 million pounds of food to Whatcom County residents in 2010.
